The Revolut Reader offers one of the lowest in-person rates in the UK at 0.8% + 2p, but it requires a paid Revolut Business account, which starts at 10 pounds a month.

How the fees work
Revolut charges just 0.8% + 2p on in-person UK consumer cards, well below the 1.69% to 1.75% that SumUp, Square and Zettle charge. The trade-off is that you need a Revolut Business account: the free plan was withdrawn, so the entry Basic plan now costs 10 pounds a month, with Grow and Scale plans (30 and 90 pounds a month) offering lower rates and more features.
Because of the monthly account fee, Revolut works out cheaper than flat-rate readers only once you process more than roughly 1,100 pounds a month on cards. Below that, a no-monthly-fee reader like SumUp or Square is usually cheaper overall.
Revolut restructured its hardware in 2026: the original 49 pound Reader has been replaced by a Lite Terminal (around 129 pounds + VAT) and a full Revolut Terminal (around 169 pounds + VAT). Chargebacks cost 15 pounds per case, which is on the higher side.
