How the fees work
Tyl publishes simple rates for businesses under 50,000 pounds annual card turnover: 1.39% + 5p on UK and European personal cards and 1.99% + 5p on all other cards (business, commercial and non-European). Usefully, Tyl does not add an uplift for online, phone, payment-link or international payments the way some rivals do, so the same rate applies across channels.
Card machines are hired monthly rather than bought, from 13.99 pounds + VAT for a countertop PAX A80 up to 19.99 pounds + VAT for the mobile PAX A920 Pro, on a 12-month contract. Tyl often runs offers such as the first six months of rental free. Settlement is next business day.
Tap to Pay on iPhone and Android is free to use at the same 1.39% + 5p rate, and a separate online payment gateway is available for an extra monthly fee. Larger businesses (over 50,000 pounds a year) move to custom pricing.
