How the fees work
PayPal POS (formerly Zettle) charges a flat 1.75% on in-person card payments, including Amex, with no monthly fee or contract. The entry reader is 29 pounds plus VAT and the terminal is 149 pounds plus VAT.
Remote payments are pricier: keyed-in is 3.4% + 20p, invoicing 2.5% and payment links 2.9% + 30p, so PayPal POS is strongest for face-to-face trade. A PayPal Business account is required.
