How the fees work
Shopify's online card processing rate depends on your plan: roughly 2.0% + 25p on Basic, 1.7% + 25p on Grow and 1.5% + 25p on Advanced. A Shopify plan is required to sell, so the calculator includes the Basic plan at 19 pounds a month in your monthly cost and effective rate. The higher plans cut the percentage but cost more per month (Grow around 49 pounds, Advanced around 259 pounds), so the cheaper rate only pays off at higher volume.
If you use a third-party payment provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify charges an extra transaction fee of 2.0%, 1.0% or 0.6% depending on plan, on top of that provider's own rate, so most stores use Shopify Payments to avoid it.
