Stripe: UK 2026 Pricing & Fee Calculator
Stripe is the default online processor for many UK startups. There is no monthly fee; you pay per successful transaction, and the rate depends on where the customer's card was issued.
What Stripe charges
| Fee | Rate |
|---|---|
| UK and EEA cards | 1.5% + 20p |
| European cards (some EEA tiers) | 2.5% + 20p |
| International cards | 3.25% + 20p |
| Currency conversion | +2% |
| Monthly fee | None |
How the fees work
Stripe charges 1.5% + 20p on UK and European cards and 3.25% + 20p on cards issued outside Europe. There is no monthly fee, setup fee or cancellation fee on the standard account, so your cost scales purely with what you process.
Two extras catch people out. If you settle a foreign-currency payment into pounds, Stripe adds about 2% for conversion on top of the card rate. And refunds do not return the original fixed fee. For UK accounting, record the gross sale as revenue and the Stripe fee as a separate expense.
High-volume businesses (roughly above 50,000 pounds per month) can usually negotiate custom or interchange-plus pricing, so it is worth contacting Stripe sales once you are at scale.
